Excelent, Simon. Very reflective and it raises all sorts of important issues for consideration. As long as you see your more extensive knowledge and experience as a good thing (whilst guarding against pushiness/bossiness as you say) then I think this is all to the good. But your post also acknowledges (importantly) that the medium in which you collaborators are well-versed (music that seeks/sought a larger audience perhaps) is not an easy one to master and excel at. There is a great deal of respect shown towards your collaborators here which is good to see. Oh, and nice to have reference to the Bennett text.
